Event History and How Your Sponsorship Will Help
In 2018, the South County Balloon Festival will celebrate its 40th year! The event was created by the Rotary Club of Wakefield to generate financial support within the local communities that the club serves.
Since 1978, over $1,800,000 have been donated from the club to local organizations. Proceeds from the event have supported many organizations including Galilee Mission, Hospice of Washington County, M.A.D.D., Salvation Army, Visiting Nurses Association, Babe Ruth League, D.A.R.E., Sympatico, Welcome House, Nursing Homes’ Christmas, Operation Close Up, C.A.N.E. Daycare, Percy Hodgson Memorial, Polio Plus, Thundermist, Venture Awards, R.I.A.R.C., South County Hospital Hospice, South County Ambulance, Johnnycake Center, South Kingstown Girls’ Softball, Rhode Island Special Olympics, South County YMCA, The Storehouse, South Kingstown High Decathlon Team, Rhode Island Community Food Bank, Domestic Violence Resource Center of South County, Chamber of Commerce, Narragansett Pier School, Reading is Fundamental, Museum of Primitive Art & Culture, South County Players Children’s Theater, South Kingstown Cares, Animal Rescue League, South County Health Cardiac Rehabilitation, Hera Gallery, American Cancer Society, Camp Hope, The Soup Kitchen, Washington County Adult Learning Center, Seniors Helping Others, South County Habitat for Humanity, In Harmony Therapeutic Riding Inc., and many other organizations.
The proceeds also go directly to students that are pursuing a post-secondary degree at the following schools: South Kingstown High School, Narragansett High School, and Prout High School.
Your support for this event will be returned to the local community of South Kingstown, and Narragansett. It will also support Rotary International programs including End Polio Now, Peace Fellowships, providing clean water, supporting education, saving mothers and children, and growing local economies. Your support will have positive lasting effects for years to come.

The South County Balloon Festival has a website that features important event information including schedule of events, activities, and attendance pricing. In 2017, the website had more than 99,000 views. The Facebook and Twitter event social media outlets received more than 100,000 impressions.
